CRY stands as a powerful advocate for underprivileged children, addressing their rights, education, healthcare, and overall development.

Their goal is to ensure they have access to a nurturing environment with ample opportunities to thrive. They work tirelessly to ensure that underprivileged children complete their education, get proper nutrition, have access to quality healthcare and stay protected from child labour and child marriage. Since 2004, CRY has impacted the lives of over 800,000 children and, with your support, aim to create brighter futures for many more!

Ektaal

Est 1999. Ektaal is the University of Virginia’s premier gender-inclusive South Asian fusion A Cappella group! The group performs music that fuse together elements of South Asian and western music. Not only do we perform on grounds and around Charlottesville, but we also perform and compete at other venues in the country.

UVA Sharaara is the premier all-female bollywood fusion dance team from the University of Virginia! Founded in 2002, they aim to spread their south-asian culture and love for dance through competitions all over the country and performances on grounds.

UVA HooRaas

HooRaas is a competitive co-ed dance team that seeks to promote the awareness of a particular type of Indian folk dance called garba-raas that is indigenous to the state of Gujarat. As a team of University of Virginia students, we perform at intercollegiate events and competitions. By performing at cultural events at the University of Virginia and at other venues, we contribute to the diversity of the university community. We aim to promote the understanding of South Asian, and specifically Gujarati, culture.

Virginia Di Shaan at UVA

Virginia Di Shaan is the University of Virginia’s premier co-ed Bhangra team, and strives to spread Punjabi culture through performances at UVA and in the greater Charlottesville area. They travel to competitions across the nation and have placed at renowned comps! They are back for another season after placing third at Blacksburg ki Badmashi, second at Aaj Ka Dhamaka, and second at Bhangra Blowout last spring. Sitaare

Sitaare is UVA’s only Indian Classical dance team, promoting all the classical dance forms of India, including Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, and more. We have competed and performed at various cultural events at UVA, and have done exhibition acts for nearby intercollegiate competitions. Virginia Ke Aashiq

Virginia Ke Aashiq is UVA’s premier co-ed competitive Bollywood-fusion dance team founded in 2020. We perform multiple dance styles including Bollywood, Bhangra, Hip-Hop, Contemporary, and more! Through competing and placing in countless competitions across the nation and performing throughout UVA, we have been able to cultivate our love for dancing while also connecting with our South Asian culture. We are excited to kick off VKA 5.0 this year and bring home more trophies and unforgettable memories!

The organization’s chapter at the University of Virginia, SPICMACAY at UVA, was established in 1990 and promotes Indian classical art forms in the UVA and Charlottesville community. Led by students and faculty advisors, the chapter presents concerts, lecture demonstrations, and small showcases, drawing participation from students, faculty, staff, community members, and professional artists from around the world. UVA’s chapter looks to continue serving the greater mission of SPICMACAY by bringing people from different cultures together and fostering greater understanding through the arts.
